Introduction

1756 ईस्वी में अलीवर्दी खान की मृत्यु के बाद उसका पुत्र सिराजुद्दौला बंगाल का नवाब बना।सत्ता संभालते ही उसे घरेलू और बाहरी शत्रुओं का सामना करना पड़ा। नवाब के विरोधियों को बंगाल के कुछ धनी सेठों का भी समर्थन प्राप्त था। इसी अवसर का फायदा उठाकर ब्रिटिश ईस्ट इंडिया कंपनी ने नवाब के विरोधियों की साजिश में भाग लेना शुरू कर दिया। उसी समय यूरोपीय कंपनियां मुगल सम्राटों से प्राप्त फरमानो द्वारा दी गई व्यापारिक सुविधाओं का दरुपयोग कर रही थी । साथ ही, वे अपनी कोलकाता स्थित बस्तियो की किलेबंदी भी करने लगी थी। जब सिराजुद्दौला को इसकी सूचना मिली, तो उसने अंग्रेजी व्यापारियों द्वारा की जा रही सैन्य तैयारियों पर प्रतिबंध लगा दिया। अंग्रेजों ने नवाब के आदेश की अवहेलना की । इससे क्रोधित होकर नवाब ने कोलकाता पर आक्रमण किया और अंग्रेजों को  पराजित कर दिया । इस घटना की सूचना जब मद्रास (चेन्नई ) पहुंची , तो लार्ड क्लाइव सैनिक बल के साथ कोलकाता पहुंच और पुनः अंग्रेजों का अधिकार हो गया। इसके बाद नवाब और अंग्रेजों के बीच 9 फरवरी 1757 को अलीनगर की संधि हुई । इस संधि के अनुसार अंग्रेजों को बंगाल बिहार और उ...
